Welcome back to my weekly spending recap, budget travel edition.
I am still in Portugal, but the Pope, and the nearly 1 million people who arrived to see him on August 1, is not. I hope he forgives me for screaming “J**** F****** C*****” as I tried to elbow my way through the swarms of people crowding the Lisbon metro in 100 degree heat.
In news that will likely come as a shock to no one but me, I have found it more difficult than I thought it would be to maintain a super strict budget on this trip. Solo travel is a curious thing – it can be lonely, sure, but – especially if you stay in hostels, it can also be a full blown social event. Which is great! But tempting. And not always the best way to keep costs low.
This week, I spent too much money on Ubers, paid €25 for a massive blanket to throw over my head to record the podcast and went on one of the most beautiful hikes of my life (photos ahead!)
