In the beginning, I was a person who loved clothes.
Then, in a lucky turn of events, I became a person who got paid to talk about clothes.
Then, seven years later, in a decidedly less lucky turn of events, I became a person who got laid off from their job talking about clothes.
Then I became a person who talked a lot about being in debt — and I really stopped talking clothes.
Be that as it may, I have remained a person who loves clothes. You can take the girl out of fashion editing, etc. — and last weekend, after I snapped a few photos of my weekend outfits and posted them on my Instagram story, I got to talking to people about clothes again. I realized a few things.
I… kind of miss talking about clothes! Those of you who have been here my early, sparsely-read-fashion-blog-turned-social-media-identity Real Girl Project days (hi, mom!) know my goal has always been to talk about fashion through a budget-and-body-friendly lens.
So, really, there is some crossover in the content of my past and present.
My relationship with shopping, and consequently, clothing, has changed drastically over the past few years. These days, I seldom seek out a sale for the sake of sale-dom. I am more interested in investing in quality pieces that will last a long time But I still prioritize shopping second-hand when I can, and try to reimagine the clothes I already have instead of constantly seeking out new ones.
With all of that in mind, I’m launching a new weekend series for all subscribers called Weekend Wears. Here, I’ll share outfit details for everything I wear from Friday-Sunday.
My goal is to challenge myself to wear more than just the same three things in my closet over and over again, and maybe provide some outfit inspiration in the process. I hope you like it!
Friday:
It was an unexpectedly *gorgeous* day. I wanted to wear something easy, so I grabbed this Alex Mill jumpsuit I’ve had for years (similar short-sleeved version here). I paired it with these matching green flats that were recently, graciously gifted to me by Vivaia.
I also am experimenting with going more maximalist on the earrings front. Most of these hoops are from Madewell, but the baby croissant stud is Alison Lou. I wore these sunglasses from Target and an old camel coat on top.
Saturday:
Another? Gorgeous? Day?
For an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration with my family, I paired a vintage blouse with vintage corduroy pants both purchased at Thanx God I’m A VIP in Paris a few years ago, with a pair of vintage heeled loafers from Malin Landaeus in Williamsburg and an oversized blazer from Aritizia (similar here) that I’ve been wearing over basically everything for years.
Sunday:
I had a number of plans that got canceled today, but I also had a few errands to run, so I threw on one of the pairs of vintage Levi’s I recently got from The Consistency Project (more on that here!) with an old Rouje T-Shirt, a vintage men’s blazer, Caterpillar sneakers (yes, like the construction company) and a Zabar’s hat.
Today was also the day that I finally re-embraced my short nails and had them painted cherry red.
Open drawers and scale not included.
And that’s a wrap on this weekend’s wears!
I’d love to hear from you! Do you like this idea? What would you like to see more of? What did you wear this weekend? Tell me everything!!! I love you!
Love always,
Jamie AF
I'm team short nail and I think they look GREAT!
Love the outfits, love the nails!
