Some people are just supermarket people. It’s not a hard and fast rule, but they’re the typically the people I like most. The ones who are ceremonious about food shopping, who delight more in exploring the dairy section of Parisian market than some of its museums ( can’t be just me).
The people who, when confronted with the decision to stay mostly out of restaurants for the foreseeable future in an effort to pay down the remaining balance of their $9,200 in credit card debt, may go a little overboard buying things to cook in their own house. (again: can’t be just me).
That’s the situation I find myself in this week. A combination of excitement in re-stocking my fridge after two months, my new Costco membership and the proximity of my favorite place to swim with two of my favorite markets in Brooklyn, my grocery budget, 11 days into the month, is all but gone.
Here’s where budgeting as prioritization comes in. I took $50 out of one of the other sections of my budget that I’m not using as much this month and allocated it instead, to my grocery budget. Plus, thanks to Costco, I have plenty of protein options to get through the month, so I’ll just have the expense of replenishing my produce a couple more times. I hope.
